Research Checkpoint 2

Since last update, I have been continuing research regarding wayfinding but also looking at other solutions to wayfinding issues and seeing if any of the ideas from those products can be applied to my solution. These parallel studies have some really ingenius ideas that can help round out the main picture of my solution.

Research Checkpoint 1

I have started researching about basic strategies that people use to navigate themselves and have pleasantly surprised by the amount of data on the subject. Many of the common topics include the usage of landmarks along with data about people having difficulty in unfamiliar areas without a map. A few of the studies I have found are included below.

Project Brief

Campus Wayfinding and Building/Department Branding

Problem Statement:

The current San Francisco State University campus way finding system is ambiguous and inefficient at providing fast and simple information about the locations of main buildings and landmarks on campus.

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of this study was to research and develop an icon based system to facilitate easier navigation around campus for all users.

Hi i'm Kirk

I am a graphic design student at San Francisco State University studying for a BS in Visual Communication Design. I am a very family oriented kind of guy and can be extremely silly at times. I am recently engaged and couldn't be happier. As long as I have good company, I am having a great time.

Growing up with two older brothers was hard at times but in the end, realized some of my most memorable moments from childhood were with them. My oldest brother is an established designer and musician in the bay area and growing up I surrounded myself with anything and everything he did and I loved it. He was my original inspiration for getting into design and everyday his work blows my mind. Seeing how successful he has become in all his endeavors has shown me what life can be like as a designer and I want a piece of that. Being able to inspire others with just an image seems so rewarding and I can't get enough of that feeling when someone is genuinely excited about something you are doing. I tend to dream big but have modest expectations so I can say I want world fame and my work in everyones house etc. etc. but honestly, all I want is to be able to support a family while doing something that I love.
